Yoga Alliance is the national education and support organization for yoga in the United States. Working in the public interest, Yoga Alliance's mission is to ensure that teachers of yoga value its history and traditions and that the public can be confident of the quality and consistency of instruction. Yoga Alliance established a national Yoga Teachers' Registry to recognize and promote teachers with training that meets their minimum standards. Yoga Alliance maintains a registry of yoga schools to recognize yoga teacher training programs that meet their standards.
Studio Be Pilates, on the second floor of 4211 Fairfax Corner East Avenue, provides classes with highly trained instructors and equipment designed for Pilates workouts. There are classes offered for all abilities, including mat workouts, equipment and "everything." Teacher training classes are also available for aspiring Pilates instructors.
Dr. B.R. Misra and Tejal Patel offer services in chiropractics, physical rehabilitation, therapeutic massage and yoga therapy at its clinic within the Om Center. Dr. Misra was voted one of Loudoun County's Best Chiropractors in 2005 and 2007 and is one of the few chiropractors in the state of Virginia certified as a Rehabilitation Specialist. Julianne Misra offers yoga therapy in an adjoining studio where she leads patients in small classes or one on one. Chair yoga is also available for those with mobility issues.
The Spring Hill Recreation Center is McLean's popular community-wide swimming pool, fitness center, kiddie camp, martial and arts and yoga center. It has just undergone a $1 million renovation that included a new heating and air conditioning system. The centerpiece of Spring Hill is a heated indoor 25-yard by 25-meter swimming pool and two one-meter diving boards. The center now has softer surfaces for the exercise class rooms and new equipment in the weight and aerobics room.
Unity Woods Yoga Center in Ballston is an independent and locally owned studio. All the instructors are certified and highly trained in Iyengar. They aim to expand awareness and improve health by exploring the various aspects of the art of the Iyengar technique. The classes take place in a wide open space equipped with the necessary props and changing rooms.
