Offering an extensive array of services and equipment, River Bend Athletic Club caters to the casual gym goer, fitness fanatics and every one in between. A family-run business, the club was started in 1978 by Anthony Rose, Jr. Today it is owned by daughter Kimberly Rose, with grandson Michael Fragomeni serving as a manger. This familial management reflects in the atmosphere of the gym, which exudes an aura of community. The club is located on Columbia Street near Church Street.
"Engage your body through the principal of Pilates while engaging your mind." That is the philosophy of Barrington Pilates. This new, fully equipped studio has the following machines: three reformers, a Cadillac, a ladder barrel and a Pilates chair. The instructors conduct private, semi- private and trio classes as well as a variety of mat classes with no more than ten students. The studio's certified trainers bring expertise to a clean, quiet and peaceful environment. A complementary, detoxifying tea awaits students upon the completion of each workout.
Synergy Power Yoga teaches the Vinyasa method that was developed by Baron Baptiste. While challenging, just about anyone can master it, especially under the direction of Synergy's excellent teachers—including the owner, who has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years. A number of classes are held weekly, and include both basic and "power" yoga. Those new to the studio can take a three-class sampler, for a modest price, to see if they'll enjoy Synergy's method.
All That Matters is a holistic healthcare facility offering meditative, spa and alternative medical services. Classes include heated sessions and those specifically catering to men and the 50+ community. Additional services include chiropractic care, nutritional counseling, life coaching and various therapeutic massages. They also have a store that carries yoga gear, apparel and jewelry.
Freedom Yoga offers classes for adults and teens. Whether your a beginner or you've been practicing yoga for years, the studio's highly-trained teachers offer a variety of classes sure to suit your skill level. Classes include core yoga, Vinyasa flow, Jivamukti yoga and classes dedicated to relaxation and meditation. Classes are available on a drop-in basis, or you can purchase five-, 10- or 20-class passes or an unlimited monthly pass. Classes can be paid for online or in the studio.
Innerlight offers yoga classes for all levels, including therapeutic yoga and advanced vinyasa. In addition to the 40 plus classes held weekly, the center conducts teacher training programs and holds monthly workshops on everything from astrology to personal growth. Over the summer, the studio holds outdoor classes at Beavertail, First Beach, Ballard Park, and Sweet Berry Farm.
