Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District was established on November 1, 1934, by the States Commissioner of Education. The district was known as C.H.S.D. 3 until May 1973, when it adopted the name reflecting its geographic location, a change that was required of all districts by the State Education Department.

The district comprises the Meadowbrook Alternative Program, Merrick Avenue Middle School, Grand Avenue Middle School, Sanford H. Calhoun High School, John F. Kennedy High School and Mepham High School.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District serves more than 6,000 students from the BellmoreNorth BellmoreMerrick and North Merrick Elementary School Districts.

Dr. Henry Kiernan serves as the superintendent of schools.
