The American Legion was created in 1919 just after the end of World War 1 by the returning veterans of that war. There are over three million members worldwide and over 14,000 American Legion posts.

The American Legion promotes interests that are important to veterans and men and women in the service to sponsorship of local youth activities. The organization is also involved in the general promotion of patriotism and national security. The American Legion is a not-for-profit organization.
