Books-A-Million is one of the leading book retailers in the United States. Founded in 1917 as a street corner newsstand in Florence, Ala., Books-A-Million has grown to become a book retailing chain in the southeastern United States. The company operates more than 200 stores in over 15 states and the District of Columbia. In addition to its retail component, the corporation includes a book wholesale and distribution subsidiary, American Wholesale Book Company, an e-commerce division, and an Internet development and services company, NetCentral, in Nashville, Tenn. Books-A-Million superstores cover more than 20,000-square-feet area, and provide a wide selection of books, magazines, bargain books, collectible supplies, extensive card and gift departments, as well as special category shops. Books-A-Million is located in Birmingham, Ala.
