Alaska is beautiful, yet largely inaccessible. Therefore, to truly appreciate and experience it, travelers must travel by helicopter and land in remote settings. Since 1998, NorthStar Trekking has offered helicopter glacier treks and tours tailored to the interests of each guest. The company offers three levels of glacier trekking experiences on the glaciers of the Juneau Ice Field. The treks are designed for small groups of people with no mountaineering experience and provide an informative and in-depth glacier experience. The first-level tour consists of a one-hour, nonstrenuous glacier walkabout during which the guide provides detailed explanations of the glacier environment. There is also a more strenuous two-hour hike on the glacier, or the X-Trek, which consists of a four-hour climb over rough terrain. Each tour begins with a 30-minute flight to the landing site in an A-Star 350 helicopter.
