Founded in 1962, the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is a full-service health care facility that specializes in ophthalmology treatments. The institute serves more than 200,000 patients annually. It offers 24-hour emergency care and community-based services for low-income individuals. The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute serves patients with various eye diseases, such as cataract, glaucoma, intraocular tumors, retinoblastoma, retinitis pigmentosa and strabismus. VA Medical Center (Miami), based in Miami, Fla., provides medical services, health care and outpatient treatment to United States veterans in the surrounding area.
