The Peninsula Family YMCA is a community center that offers educational, social and recreational programs for families. The center offers low-cost programming and fitness classes that employ a fitness center, a pool, a basketball court, a Pilates studio, a weight room and a child care center. The YMCA offers classes in cycling, pool aerobics, body sculpting, stretching, abs, aerobics, yoga, kick boxing, stepping and more. Special classes are offered to senior citizens as well.
The YMCA’s youth programs focus on skill building, relationship building, community involvement, safety and participation. The center offers indoor youth sports programs for children ages 3 to 11. King's Swim Academy is a swimming academy based in San Mateo. The academy offers swimming lessons to infants, children and adults in group and private lessons. Excluding the Parent & Me class for parents and infants, experience class levels are divided by colors, including blue, purple, yellow, green and red, ordered respectively from level of expertise. The academy also offers an adult swim.
This city-owned pool complex is open daily for adult lap swimming. The six-lane heated pool is 4-6 feet deep and has a lift to help disabled swimmers get into the water. There is also a smaller, shallower pool for kids' lessons and aqua-fit classes. Joinville also hosts swim and water-safety lessons and lifeguard training -- check the website for details. Swims are $5.50 each or $40-$45 for a month of unlimited swims.
