The Department of Transportation Safety works under the government of Kentucky and works to provide an environmentally sound, multimodal transportation system, and human and financial resources for individuals. It maintains a transport operations center that is a multifunctional unit that collects and disseminates traffic and highway incident information to the traveling public. The department operates a communication center that offers real-time traffic and travel information. The Department of Transportation Safety also supports a patrol program that is a part of an incident management initiative to improve safety, reduce delay caused by nonrecurring congestion and improve operations of the freeway system. It additionally conducts child passenger safety, drunk driving and Judgment Day programs. The department offers information regarding bikes and pedestrians, commercial vehicles, incident management, lane departure and winter driving. With one of its locations in Bowling Green, Ky., it maintains its headquarters in Frankfort, Ky.
