Dr. Christopher Uggen is an orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine, Shoulder Surgery, and Trauma. He specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of shoulder, elbow, and knee injuries; minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery; and shoulder and knee replacements. Originally from Kalamazoo, MI, Dr. Uggen completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and studied abroad with Semester At Sea. Dr. Uggen earned his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, CA and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the LIJ/North Shore Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, CA. He also completed an additional fellowship in Orthopedic Trauma at the University of Basel in Switzerland. While in Los Angeles, Dr. Uggen participated in the care and treatment of athletes and patients from the high school to professional level, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, Galaxy, Sparks, and Anaheim Ducks. In addition to providing excellent clinical care, Dr. Uggen instructs advanced knee and shoulder surgery at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery Learning Center in Chicago, IL and educates orthopedic surgery residents and medical students at the Western Michigan Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine in Kalamazoo, MI. His teaching awards include the Arthroscopy Association of North America Snyder Award and the WMed Orthopedic Educator of the Year. He has published numerous papers in peer reviewed orthopedic surgery journals. Dr. Uggen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. He also serves on the Editorial Board of Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery.
