The Interfaith Hospitality Network — Main Line provides services to homeless families and indivduals in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties including temporary housing, meals and support services.
While not a religious organization, they get many volunteers from faith-based organizations. They also work closely with social service agencies.
Aclamo stands for Acción Comunal Latino Americana de Montgomery County. Aclamo is a bilingual social services agency with two locations, one on West Marshall Street in Norristown and the other in Pottstown, PA. Aclamo's goal is to assist the Latin American community with social services, as well as educational, child-care, and family services. Aclamo provides assistance with housing for low-income families as well as connecting the Latin community with cultural activities.
For more than 29 years, the Patrician Society of Central Norristown has been serving economically disadvantaged families in the greater Norristown area. In 2009, more than 1,300 families were served in one way or another, from children's summer camp to assistance paying winter heating bills. At times, the location has served as a homeless shelter, and provides job training for those seeking employment. Currently, they are operating an emergency food cupboard.
Senior Adult Activities Center of Montgomery County (SAAC) is located on George Street in Norristown. SAAC offers educational, recreational and social programs for adults over 50 years of age. They offer computer labs, social walking events, arts & crafts, and more. They also have an adult day care program Monday through Friday at 7:30am to 5pm.
Catholic Social Services provides a plethora of services, particularly aimed at families, children and the elderly. Working hand in hand with government agencies, Catholic Social Services brings compassion to the table, and genuine care for each person served. Social workers, counselors, and various medical personnel work together for the benefit of those in need. Every location provides different services. This location provides a food pantry, counseling services for senior citizens over 70 years old, a parenting group, and case management services. The Women's Center is dedicated to helping victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault or other abusive situations through counseling and support groups. The volunteer organization also gives presentations to businesses and schools about the issues surrounding domestic violence.
CADCOM works throughout Montogomery County mobilizing and developing economic development programs designed to help individuals achieve self-sufficiency. As part of its mission, CADCOM provides access to a variety of local and federal programs designed to assist homeowners with their housing, energy and food bills, as well as other forms of financial assistance.
At the Social Security Office, individuals may apply for a replacement social security card, social security disability benefits or a Medicare plan. The staff is knowledgeable and will assist residents with sorting through paperwork. The building is going under renovations, but is still open for business.
