Since 2002, the trained volunteers of Hudson County CASA have been speaking up for the best interests of children in foster care. For children who have been removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect, their CASA volunteer is the one constant they can rely on. To give a child a voice is to give them hope. Founded in 1970, PACO, also known as Puertorrique os Asociados for Community Organization, is a bilingual, bicultural, community-based nonprofit organization that provides services for low- and moderate-income families and individuals. It offers weatherization services that include assistance with utility bill payments, insulation, and repair and replacement of door, windows, heating systems and chimneys. The organization provides emergency food, transportation, escort assistance, health screening, and translation and interpretation services for senior citizens. PACO offers a range of educational services that include technical scholarships and citizenship classes, as well as conducts workshops. Additionally, it provides advocacy and information and referral services for individuals with HIV and AIDS. The organization also offers housing assistance services, including budget management and post purchase services, as well as organizes related seminars.
