Kansas Association of Community Action Agencies supports community action agencies and other human service networks in their local, state and national efforts to end poverty, and is headquartered in Topeka, Kan. Established in 1968, the state association for Community Action Agencies in Kansas is a forum for issues of concern to low-income people. Its member agencies are private, nonprofit organizations funded from a variety of resources, including federal, state and local governments, as well as private foundations and donations. The Shawnee County Family Resource Center is a nonprofit organization that provides prevention, intervention and treatment services. It offers Gatekeepers, a program that serves vulnerable adults through intake, assessment and referral services with a special focus on physical and mental health issues. The organization offers translation services in verbal and written communication to Spanish-speaking clients. The Shawnee County Family Resource Center also provides the Juvenile Intake and Assessment program, a 24-hour, seven days a week response to children and youths taken into custody by law enforcement agencies. The Farm, also known as TFI Family Services, is a foster care agency in Kansas. It provides direct services to more than 20 counties in southeast and south central Kansas and sponsors various foster and resource parents throughout the state. It has over 500 foster care providers covering the majority of Kansas. Kirk Nystrom has practiced law in Topeka for over 35 years. He primarily assists clients with Wills, Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Trusts, Probate, Estate Planning, Real Estate and small business law. He received both his B.B.A. and his Juris Doctor from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Kirk belongs to various organizations, including: the Kansas Bar Association (Probate and Real Estate Sections), the Topeka Bar Association, the Topeka Probate Bar and Christian Legal Society.He has served as an officer in various community organizations, including: Shawnee County Community Action, his Church board, Boy Scouts of America, Cair-Paravel Latin School Board, and Christian Neighbor Center (an outreach to the disadvantaged). Kirk is president of the Topeka Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship. Karin, his wife of 36 years, is his legal secretary. Robert Stockton, a fellow attorney, assists in the office.
