Founded in 1950, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) is a nonprofit organization with a national network of more than 14,000 organizations and leaders. Its members include senior centers, Area Agencies on Aging, adult day service centers, faith-based service organizations, senior housing facilities and leaders from academia, business and labor. The agency s programs help senior citizens to remain healthy and independent, find jobs and access other benefit programs. The National Council on Aging offers a BenefitsCheckUp program, which assists senior citizens with limited income and find benefit programs that help with prescription drug costs, rent, energy bills and food. It provides health promotion, falls and disease prevention and chronic disease self-management services. The agency s health education program promotes healthy aging through consumer education campaigns on medical conditions affecting elderly people.
