The Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California (SCDFC) was founded in 1957 in order to educate, screen and counsel those at risk of having sickle cell disease. Services provided by the organization include case management, transportation assistance, medical referrals, community resource referrals, network groups, holiday giving, resources and advocacy. Other programs include pain education, education, social support and Camp Crescent Moon, a specialized summer camp for children with sickle cell disease. SPIRITT Family Services began under the name Project INFO Community Services in 1972. It is a private, nonprofit organization that was developed for the prevention of increased drug abuse among the student population of the Whittier Union High School District. The agency employs nearly 100 individuals and operates five centers.
