Sumeet Kumar, DO is Board Certified in Neurology, Sleep Medicine and Epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a Neurohospitalist with Methodist Physicians | Neurology Specialists at Methodist Hospital | Stone Oak in San Antonio. Like many physicians, the combination of science and the ability to help people led Dr. Kumar to consider a career in medicine. It may have been his time working as an ambulance EMT in college, however, that sealed his fate. “I liked seeing the way physicians and other health professionals worked together to help their patients improve. That comradery is something rather unique to the practice of healthcare,” says Dr. Kumar. Dr. Kumar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, where he graduated cum laude with departmental honors. He graduated from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, completed his neurology residency at Temple University Hospital/Temple University School of Medicine’s Department of Neurology in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served as chief resident. Dr. Kumar completed fellowships in Neurology (focusing on adult and pediatric epilepsy) and in sleep medicine, both at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Prior to joining Methodist Physicians, Dr. Kumar started a private sleep medicine practice and has also been an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio. He is the recipient of several awards and honors, notably the Top Scholar Fellow award presented at the American Epilepsy Society meeting in 2007 during the first year of his Neurology fellowship.

Prabhdeep Singh, MD is Board Certified in Neurology, Sleep Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology. He is a Hospitalist at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Born into a family of physicians, it was natural for Neurologist Dr. Prabhdeep Singh to follow in their footsteps and pursue a career in medicine. After completing his medical degree in India and working as a general practitioner there for two years, Dr. Singh followed his brother, a nephrologist, to the United States. He started residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut. But he discovered his passion for neurology one day when he encountered a hospitalized patient being treated acutely for stroke with the (new at the time) clot-buster drug tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA. “The patient presented with right-side weakness, was barely able to talk and 48 hours later he was almost back to normal!” says Dr. Singh. He then completed a residency in neurology, served as chief resident at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston (UTMB), Texas, and never looked back. Dr. Singh then began a fellowship in epilepsy and served as an instructor in neurology at UTMB until Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston and the epilepsy program at UTMB was suspended. He continued to work there for four years as an assistant professor, however, and got board certification in sleep medicine during that time while holding a joint faculty appointment in the Neurology and Pulmonary Departments. He also served for three years as the medical director for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital and Clinics for UTMB in Galveston. In 2013, Dr. Singh reentered training and completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Given the option of remaining at UTHSCSA to follow an academic path or joining Methodist Hospital as a neurohospitalist, Dr. Singh chose the latter: “I loved the diversity of patients at Methodist Hospital, the different challenges, the cases that were not only difficult to diagnose, but also intriguing and at times challenging to manage. And the resources like neurosurgery, hematology/oncology and cardiology that are available for our patients are excellent, here, too.” says Dr. Singh. Dr. Singh is a member of the Texas Neurological Society and the American Academy of Neurology.
