School Administrative Unit 26 is the home of the superintendent, assistant superintendent, business administrator, director of human resources and support staff.
James Mastricola Upper Elementary is a public school for students in grades five and six. Throughout the many subjects taught here, the teachers try to promote responsibility, safety, and independent and critical thinking, and try to make the students lifelong learners. The upper elementary school is attached to the elementary school near the high school off of Baboosic Lake Road.
Thorntons Ferry School is an elementary school that provides children from Kindergarten to the 4th grade with a comprehensive academic, physical and social education. The school's library allows students to check out different numbers of books, depending on their grade level, and also provides them with access to a number of online databases for research projects; databases can be accessed from home as well. Thorntons Ferry School offers a full-service speech and language therapy program to its students, with each child receiving individualized program goals and treatment procedures.
The Academy for Science and Design is an open-enrollment charter school for students in grades seven through 12. Charter schools are public schools, but they are attended by choice and often specialize in a general field. Academy for Science and Design specializes in architecture and engineering, chemistry and bio-medicine, astronomy and astronautics, computer sciences, system design and simulation, environment and global sustainability, mathematics and physics and aeronautics and aviation. If there are more eligible students than there are openings at the school, a lottery is held.
The Merrimack PTA Kindergarten is for children aged three to five. The kindergarten and preschool is a private, non-profit organization run under the guidance of the Parent Teacher Association of the Merrimack School District. All of the programs at Merrimack PTA encourage social and cognitive growth.
