Orono Montessori School is a private preschool and kindergarten with a Montessori-based curriculum. This Montessori program allows for children to learn at their own individual pace in a meaningful, supportive setting created specifically for children 6 weeks to 6 years old. Wayzata Sailing School is a non-profit sailing center offering lessons, summer camps and youth racing for children ages 5 to high school and college ages. It alos offers adult lessons. Racing regattas are held throughout the season to give students and sailors a chance to have fun and test their sailing skills. Wayzata Sailing School focuses on the importance of fun, safety and responsibility.
Deephaven Elementary School serves the Deephaven and Shorewood neighborhoods. Located just East of Carson Bay in Deephaven, kids here take classes in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, handwriting, math, science, social studies, health, art, music, media and technology and physical education. Deephaven Elementary students also have the option of Spanish immersion beginning in kindergarten.
In 2007, The Deephaven Elementary Parent Teacher Organization built an Outdoor Classroom in the school's courtyard. The Outdoor Classroom is meant to give a hands-on approach to the elementary science and math curriculum. Each Deephaven Elementary student experiences at least one event per season in the Outdoor Classroom.
Transportation by school bus is provided for the majority of children residing in the school district at no charge to the family. Two hot lunch choices are offered each day; meals are planned in accordance with requirements of the federal school lunch guidelines.
For children in need of before- and/or after-school care, Deephaven offers Explorer's Club for children in grades kindergarten to 5th. Hours are 6:45am until school starts and after school until 6pm.
This Catholic church adheres to traditional Catholic worship traditions. It offers many opportunities for young and old members to participate in ministries and other community work. The staff here says that one of the church's more popular ongoing projects is the HNOJ Service Team, where the church bands together to address immediate, emergency needs in the community. Holy Name of Jesus is located off of Route 24 in north Wayzata.
Operating as a "Core Knowledge School" with a curriculum based upon the work of Dr. E. D. Hirsch, Jr., St. Therese Catholic School exposes children in each grade to a wide variety of subject matter to promote cultural literacy as well as strong communication skills. Providing a program that includes language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography and religion, St. Therese Catholic School serves kindergarten through 8th grade in classrooms for the elementary levels with 16 to 25 students. Students participate in weekly mass, daily prayer and community outreach.
