The Country School is an independent, coeducational day school that welcomes children in preschool through grade 8. The school offers a challenging academic program that emphasizes hands-on learning and strives to create motivated, enthusiastic and curious students.
Located on a 23-acre campus, the school offers small class sizes and a program that includes science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM) as well as global awareness, physical education, outdoor education and service learning. The campus includes a hiking trail, children's garden and rope courses.
Situated in a carriage house on a quiet, rural corner in Cheshire, the Boulder Knoll Montessori School is for children between the ages of three to six years and is based on the educational philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. It believes that students best achieve independent learning and enjoyment through the ability to succeed in an environment carefully constructed by the teacher. Throughout the program, children are exposed to practical life situations, sensory experiences, language, math, creative writing, science, cultural studies, art and music. The four instructors have many years of experience and hold degrees in the field.
Pastor Jim Stoltenberg of Saint John Lutheran Church claims that its affiliated pre-school is the best-known part of his church. Sixty-five children between the ages of three and five years from throughout the area attend Saint John each year. The school has an independent director but the pastor himself participates in the school by providing a monthly story time.
This is a before- and after-school program provided for students from kindergarten through fifth grade under the auspices of the Middlesex County YMCA. Each of Middletown's eight public elementary schools has a program on-site. Kids' Korner programs adhere to the school calendar, with programs beginning on the first day of school and ending on the last.
JC Karate practices the 2,000 year old Tang Soo Do method of martial arts -- a combination of the classic Korean art with influences from the Tang. At JC, there are classes three days a week for Tiny Tigers and Little Dragons, (ages three through seven), and five days a week for Gups (ages six and above). For those 14 and older, there are spinning and cardio kickboxing offered in both the mornings and evenings. Bully defense classes and bully talks are available as well.
JC Karate believes in teaching the powers of a successful life, including patience, concentration, humility, self-discipline, self-control and a healthy body with proper mental and physical ability.
The Madison Public Schools Central Office runs the Madison Public Schools with oversight from the Madison Public Schools Board of Education. There are six public schools and a preschool in the school system. Those schools include the following:

David Klein is the school superintendent. The schools serve about 3,000 students. The goal of the Madison Public Schools is to "to support students in achieving their highest educational and personal potential, to inspire in them an enduring love for learning, and to prepare them to be 21st Century citizens of the world who contribute to the diverse, multicultural and international communities in which they will live."
A public school in Regional School District 17, for grades 5-8, the new state-of-the-art school opened in January 2007 and is the region's only midde school. Students are taught a core cirriculum to "foster academic growth and personal development."

This small Christian academy has grown from four students in 2007 to 81 in 2010. Affiliated with the Meriden Baptist Church, MidState takes students ages 3 through 18 of all faiths from Meriden and the surrounding towns. Meriden students are picked up by bus, and other students must be driven to the school. Tuition is $3,000 per year, but discounts are available for church members and families with multiple children enrolled.
