The University of Hartford was founded in 1957 as a merger of the Hartford Art School, the Hartt School of Music and Hillyer College. The university offers nearly 90 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate degree programs. The school boasts a Division 1 athletics program involving 18 sports.
Undergraduates number about 4,700 on campus, with another 800 part-time undergraduates and 1,700 graduate students. Students come from about 45 states and 49 countries.

Kingswood Oxford is an independent, co-educational, college preparatory day school serving students in grades 6-12. The 500-plus students attend school on a campus located near West Hartford's Blue Back Square. The school puts an emphasis on educating leaders for the 21st century.
Today's school is the result of a 1969 merger between Kingswood School, a boys school founded in 1916, and Oxford School, a girls school founded in 1909.
Duffy Elementary School is the largest of West Hartford's eleven elementary schools, with about 570 students. Duffy opened in 1952 and is named after Louise Day Duffy, who was a teacher and a member of the West Hartford Board of Education. Duffy has an integrated special education program and a community center - the Hillcrest Avenue Neighborhood Outreach Center (HANOC) - that offers a homework center and counseling groups for students and families.
The West Hartford location of national chain the Berlitz School of Language offers language and cultural education to adults and children, as well as to military and corporate clients. Berlitz is located in the Center Building, in the heart of West Hartford Center's thriving downtown area. The bright, friendly reception area and the tastefully decorated private learning areas contribute to a positive environment for students.
The Farmington Avenue Baptist Church was established in 1959. It holds a Flyer's Club for children, ages 2 to kindergarten and The Hartford Christian Academy for kindergarten to 12th graders. It also holds adult classes. The congregration is led by Pastor Gary L. Jones.

In 1901, Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that children pass through universal phases of development, and she developed an approach to education based on those phases. This approach is still used today at the Montessori School of Greater Hartford, which is located in the Boatner Building behind the American School for the Deaf. MSGH has four main programs: the Toddler Program for children aged 15 months to 3 years; the Primary Program, for 3- to 6-year-olds; the Lower Elementary Program for 6- to 9-year-olds; and the Upper Elementary Program for 9- to 12-year-olds.

The University of Hartford Magnet School is located on the University of Hartford campus. They share facilities, programs and staff with many divisions of the University and the neighboring schools within University Park. The University of Hartford Magnet School consists of the Early Childhood Learning Center for preschool students, the Family Wellness Center, with licensed clinic and parent support program, and a teaching lab for early childhood and elementary education college students. Their mission is to ensure that all students meet high standards and develop their full potential in traditional and expanded academic areas. It is a multi-faceted educational facility focused on individual learning styles and strengths that brings urban and suburban children, families and faculty together to form a diverse, innovative learning community. The program is run by Principal Elaina Brachman.
