Founded in 1764 as the College of Rhode Island in Warren, R.I., Brown University is a private university that serves more than 7,500 students. The university includes an undergraduate college and graduate and medical schools that offer over 100 programs. It operates a library system that provides nearly 6 million items, including bound volumes, periodicals, maps, sheet music and manuscripts. In addition, Brown University s library system offers computers and Wi-Fi Internet access. The university also has the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology, which houses approximately 100,000 artifacts from North America, Asia, Africa and the South Pacific.
