The International Academy of Consciousness (IAC) is a worldwide non-profit organization devoted to the study of human consciousness, offering lectures and courses to the public. Learning at the IAC involves non-dogmatic theoretical and practical education encompassing all facets of the human experience. Course subjects include psychic abilities, healing, paranormal phenomena, personal energetic control, the out-of-body experience, life purpose, the evolution of the consciousness and related subjects. Those new to the material can sign up for a free introductory seminar. Memberships are also available, and donations are accepted.
Turning Point School provides a Montessori education for students from pre-school through 8th grade. The curriculum for all levels is divided into academic studies, creative development, physical education, social development and character-building activities, while special programs include Community Service Learning, Human Development, a family program, a mentor program and the school's own K-1 Model. Looking Glass Children's Services is a non-public agency contracted by school districts to provide behavioral intervention for special needs children. Although their specialty is classroom intervention, home intervention is also an option. The behavioral services offered here include in class one-on-one behavioral intervention, in home one-on-one behavioral intervention, classroom consultation, curriculum adaption, therapeutic companions, social skills training, parent training, and respite services. Programs are adapted to individual students' needs using strategies such as CABA, DTT, floor time, pivotal response, visual strategies, and special education techniques. The executive director of Looking Glass, Christine Anderson MEd, is the mother of an autistic child and founded the company in 2000, drawing from her experience as a special educator and behavioral therapist.
STAR Resource Station is part of STAR Education, a nonprofit organization serving students, families, schools and the community. The resource station is based on Jefferson Boulevard in Culver City and is a collaboration between STAR Education, STAR Gifted and Talented Education department, STAR Prep Academy and the STAR Eco Station. The center provides innovative, educational and inspirational programs for parents, teachers and students throughout the year, including conferences, workshops and special events. They include panel discussions, educational films, childrens activities, special speakers and other educational activities.
Established in 1995, Inside Out Productions is a commercial art and sewing studio. At Inside Out Productions, there is belief in supporting the developmentally disabled with its LA Goal Program by assisting in increasing independence and employability. Xap Corporation is located on a side street just south of National in a mostly industrial area of Culver City. It can be found inside a massive, modern complex called Conjunctive Point, which is home to multiple other businesses. Xap bills itself as "a pioneer in electronic and internet-based information management systems for college-bound students." It helps build university-approved mentor websites that help students deal with the complicated maze of university admission and financial aid prep work.
The Kayne Eras Center is part of the Exceptional Children's Foundation, offering K-12 education for youth ages 5-22. The program here is designed for children who have developmental delays, learning disabilities, behavioral or emotional challenges, and/or health impairments. The credentialed staff of teachers and therapeutic professionals aims to find each student's path to learning and unlocking his or her unique potential through instruction, enrichment activities, counseling, adaptive courses, and individual therapy and support. Adult services are also available. The center opened in 2000 and continues to operate through private and non-public funds.
ITA Productions provides acting classes and workshops. Some of the available programs include TV on Camera, Ongoing Scene Study, Soap Operas, Feature and Indie Film. Workshops are regularly offered with casting directors, industry specialists, directors and producers.
The New School of Cooking opened in June 2000. It offers classes ranging from beginner to advanced. Professional classes have two levels and cover everything from stocks and sauces to plated desserts and everything in between. It also offers professional baking programs with classes from quick breads to candy. The short series covers basic cooking and basic vegetarian cooking. ITT Technical Institute offers higher education for adults throughout the country. At this school, students can earn Associate and Bachelor degrees in career-focused programs including information technology, drafting and design, electronics engineering and criminal justice. Part of the Culver City Unified School District, Farragut Elementary School educates children from kindergarten through 5th grade. The school's academic program focuses on problem solving and critical thinking, using tools like cooperative learning, team teaching, individualized instruction, peer tutoring and technology. Principal Eileen Carroll strongly encourages parental involvement in the school and in the children's educations at home. Parents are encouraged to volunteer for various activities and to participate in the PTA.
La Playa Cooperative Nursery School is a preschool with a safe outdoor play area for children ages 2 1/2 to 5. The school is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Pacifica Montessori School provides Montessori-style education for children in pre-school through 5th grade. This unique location is housed in the Heather Village Condominiums, a complex originally designed with a school. Students here are given the opportunity to grow and learn at their own pace, following their own interests within the curriculum. Classrooms have mixed ages and multiple teachers to guide students on an individual level. Pacifica Montessori was established in 1982, and has a West Los Angeles campus as well.
