Founded in 1970, Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative is a provider of diversified special education services. The cooperative serves students with physical and mental disabilities and caters to their unique educational needs through individualized, special and modified programs. It focuses on providing educational experiences that enable students to develop self-worth and independence and to function to the best of their ability. It offers various extended programs for students and their families in partnership with several educational institutes in Lake County, Ind., including Hanover Community School Corporation, School Town of Highland and Lake Ridge Schools. The cooperative organizes a variety of special events, sports activities and workshops. Its parent network is a group of parents who have the common goal of promoting positive communication between special education students and the schools.
