Lake Forest School District 67 has more than 2,000 students attending three elementary schools for grades kindergarten through fourth, and a middle school broken down into fifth/sixth, and seventh/eighth. In 1954, Deer Path Middle School was built followed by Sheridan (1956), Everett rebuilt (1957) and Cherokee (1962).
The District's 150-year history can be seen through the old Quinlan School, which was built in 1861 at the time the town of Lake Forest. It was chartered and later moved and then became a private residence.
Average elementary class size is 21 students per classroom. There is a ratio of approximately 13 students to every teacher at District 67. The administrator to pupil ratio is 150:1.
The roots of William Beye Elementary stretch all the way back to the late 1870s, when local students would pack into a back room of a general store on Ridgeland Avenue or a nearby four-room schoolhouse. A newer facility was constructed in 1896 at the behest of prominent German immigrant William Beye. After several expansions - including multiple additions after a 1930 fire destroyed parts of the school - the original facility stands more than 130 years after it was founded. Today, Beye Elementary serves more than 400 Oak Park students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.
