CHabad Lubavitch is a 250-year old branch of Hasidism. The central values are " understanding and recognition of the Creator, the role and purpose of Creation, and the importance and unique mission of each Creature. This philosophy guides a person to refine and govern his and her every act and feeling through wisdom, comprehension and knowledge."
This Chabad Center is directed by Rabbi Shmuel Kaplan, and offers home and hospital visitations, synagogue, classes, one-on-one study, funeral services and an extensive library. You can call the center for information on times and programs.
Grace United Methodist Church is located just north of Charles Village. The parish focuses on community, religious education and spiritual growth by means of biblical fellowship. Events, which are intended to educate and help people connect, are held regularly. Sunday school is offered every week, and new membership orientation is offered every second and third Sunday of the month.
Led by Rev. Mark W. Hanna, Pastor, RPPC focuses its sights on two main areas of human service: Families in crisis and shelter needs. Cathedral of Mary Our Queen is an enormous, ornate cathedral with soaring ceilings and stained glass windows. The church has programs for all ages, a school, a library and is very active in the surrounding community. If you are interested in joining the congregation, registration is available online, and meet-and-greets are held regularly at rotating church members' homes to encourage a sense of community and support.
Saints Philip & James Catholic Church is one of the most unique structures in Charles Village. The church, which is located less than a mile from Johns Hopkins University, serves parishoners throughout the university and North Baltimore communities.
This church is home to not just one, but five different congregations: the First Christian Church, Congregation Biet Tikvah, Mount Olivet Christian Church, St. Andrew's Christian Community, and The Gathering. Though the congregations are distinct and meet on different times and days, they do occasionally come together to work on community service and charity efforts that benefit the community as a whole. This location is the meeting place for the Baltimore Religious Society of friends, also known as Quakers. There are worship services as well as business meetings held here, and the organization regularly plans events designed to foster community betterment.
St. Michael the Archangel is an Overlea landmark and an anchor in the neighborhood since 1914. The church has roughly 950 parishioners and is very involved with the community. Weekend masses are also offered in Spanish.
The First Church of Christ, Scientist is located in the Tuscany Canterbury neighborhood in North Baltimore. It is across the street from Johns Hopkins University's Homewood Field. The building, built by architect Charles E. Cassell in 1911, is registered in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
