The C. G. Jung Educational Center of Houston, Texas, Inc, was founded in 1958 by a group of women who had been studying the works of the Swiss psychiatrist Dr. Carl Gustav Jung. In 1954, Ruth Thacker Fry, after completing three years of study at Jung Institute in Zurich, began lecturing in Houston on Jungs depth psychology. After four years of study, a group of her students were motivated to found The Jung Center. Carolyn Grant Fay, Ethel Carradine Kurth, Alma Owen Lloyd and Ella Rice Winston chartered the Center as a Texas nonprofit educational institution in 1958. They asked Dr. Jung for permission to use his name in the new Centers title, and he readily granted it. In 1958, The C.G. Jung Educational Center of Houston, Texas, was chartered, and to this day remains unique in America. With a rich and diverse program dedicated to self-discovery, community outreach, and spiritual enlargement, it is the one Jungian organization devoted primarily to serving the general public. In 1974, The Jung Center moved to its current location at 5200 Montrose, in the heart of Houstons dynamic Museum District. In 1985, Carolyn Grant Fay generously donated the building to the Center. And in 2008, The Jung Center celebrated its 50th Anniversary Year and honored the woman who in the middle of what was to become her long, remarkably productive life created this center for the continuing education of the human spirit: Carolyn Grant Fay. As The Jung Center has grown, many highly-trained professionals in the disciplines of psychology, religion, education and the arts have been added to the faculty to conduct classes, lectures, seminars, and workshops aimed at the development of the individual. Over the years, the faculty has also included internationally known presenters from the United States, Canada, and Europe. In 1974, The Jung Center moved to its current location at 5200 Montrose, across from the Cullen Sculpture Garden of The Museum of Fine Arts. In 1985, Carolyn Grant Fay donated the building to the Center, and many of the furnishings were gifts from Ella Rice Winston. The Alma Owen Lloyd Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Cora Conner Spear Memorial Scholarship Fund provide financial aid to students and the Ethel Carradine Kurth Library and Bookstore contains the most extensive collection of books on Jungian subjects in the southwest. Each year, too, over 5, 000 visitors are drawn to the Centers gallery spaces, which showcase the work of Texas artists. Exhibitions range across a broad artistic spectrum, from the recent retrospective of famed water color artist Arthur Turner to Mi Pueblo: The Pozos Childrens Project, organized by photographer Geoff Winningham as part of the 2008 FotoFest and featuring photographs and monotypes by children of Mineral de Pozos, Mexico. Originally designed as at art gallery, the Centers facility provides an ideal venue for local artists and has established it as an integral part of the vibrant Houston Museum District. In the Houston community: A deep dedication to the essential need for psychological wholeness and compassionate action in the world forms the basis of Jung Center outreach initiatives conducted in collaboration with like-minded organizations throughout the city. Public Conferences: Our public conferences provide a forum for exploration and dialogue on some of the most compelling issues of our day. In recent years, our cultural and education partners for these conferences have included:
