Established in 1961, Hays Recreation Commission offers various leisure activities and programs for youth and adults. It is a joint venture involving both the city of Hays and unified school district number 489. The commission offers various programs, such as cowboy for a day, daddy daughter date night, Pepsi popcorn and pinochle and a variety of art, craft and family activities. In addition, its sport programs include activities, such as baseball, softball, soccer and basketball. It also offers indoor soccer, roller hockey, and the Western Kansas All-Star Girls Basketball League programs. The commission also provides various wellness programs, including aerobics and blood pressure checks, and healthy cooking classes. Hays Recreation Commission s office is located at the Hays Recreation Center in Kansas, and includes various gymnasiums, meeting rooms and offices. The commission also participates in the maintenance of Frank Stramel softball fields, Pratt-Optimist soccer complex, and various city parks and roller hockey courts.

Our instructors are selected for their experience in horsemanship and abilities to properly instruct students. Owner Cheryl Manahan attended William Woods University Equestrian Science program. She has managed Wichita Riding Academy since it was founded in 1984. Cheryl has instructed & trained many state and national champion riders and horses. Wichita Riding Academy, Inc is a teaching, boarding and horse training facility. Our facilities include a 220 x 54 foot indoor arena, stabling for 30 horses, outdoor arenas, four turnout pens, four round pens, indoor and outdoor wash racks, outdoor pasture and dry lot boarding. Our main barn also includes 12 foot aisles, an observation room, two restrooms, pop and snack machines and private tack lockers are also available. Our facility also has ample trailer parking.
