Though it's located along busy River Road, the greenery surrounding the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation lends a sense of calm and reflection. The congregation seeks to promote social justice, spirituality and religious education for youth and adults. The tranquil space is a popular place for community gatherings and a meditation group draws hundreds there each Wednesday. Built in 1965, River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation is also a "green" sanctuary, which means congregants there seek to promote sustainability.
Kiddies Kollege Christian Center has a long history, which began with its founders Dr. Odell and Laura Shumate. The center has gone through several name changes but remains a family-owned pre-school. Students enrolled are from two to five years. It also has an after-school program for kindergarten students.
Founded in 1981, the Acadmeny Child Development Center is a non-profit locally run child care provider as well as educational organization. It offers programs in has schools in various locations in Montgomery County, but the main administrative office is in Rockville. The Academy Child Development Center has program options for children from three months to 12 years of age. These programs are: Infant/Toddler, Tiny Tots, Preschool, Discovery Pre-K, Pre-K, and School Age. The school has daycare programs, after school care, and a summer camp. The child/staff ratios are purposefully kept low to facilitate a child-centered approach at education.
For more than 50 years, Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church (CMPC) has been serving Columbia and the surrounding areas. CMPC offers the Alpha Program and LOGOS Youth program. Some of the outreach programs offered by Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church are Habitat for Humanity, Helping Up Mission (for the homeless and addicted), Cold Weather Shelter, Gulf Coast Mission and Bethel Free Health Clinic. Although CMPC faithfully serves nonmembers, they love and care for their own. "Fun, fellowship and faith" is a great description of Christ Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Severna Park United Methodist Church Nursery School provides half-day programs for pre-kindergarten students 3 and 4 years of age. Extended day care is not available at this location. Programs are designed to be developmental, physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual. Curriculum includes art, music, literature, the natural and physical sciences, and community life. Classrooms are staffed with one teacher and one aide for a room of 12 children. Teachers are certified in CPR and child safety. There is a fully fenced in playground for the pre-school geared for ages 3-5.
Admissions: Children must be age 3 or 4 prior to Sept. 1 of the year in which they wish to enroll.
