Whether you need infant care, preschool curriculum, or after-school care, this child care center has developmentally appropriate programs for your children. A nurturing and positive learning environment is a key part of early childhood development. Their curriculum supports this philosophy through a system of eight types of intelligence. Based upon the work of Howard Gardners Multiple Intelligences, their eight criteria include "Word Smart," which is using language effectively. Theres "Body Smart," or using the whole body for self-expression, and "Number Smart," which is the ability to use numbers to solve problems, among others. Parental involvement is very important to the Learning Jungle School. Keeping in mind the busy schedules of working parents, they seek to include parents through daily reports on your childs progress. They also provide an online portfolio, so parents can support what their child is learning at home. What also makes Learning Jungle School special is their diverse enrichment programs, which explore languages, math, music, and art. Children can enroll in classes for Spanish and Chinese language, piano, math, dancing, and drawing. These immersive programs take advantage of young childrens sponge-like capacity for learning. They also offer on-site tutoring with highly qualified educators for children ages 6 and up. The Orinda Preschool is a cooperative preschool and a non-cooperative developmental kindergarten open to children of all races, creeds and nationalities. The school is licensed by the Department of Social Services, accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and maintained by Orinda Preschool, Inc, for the purpose of providing an environment especially adapted to the needs of preschool children. Our experienced and well-educated teachers supervise the program. In addition to the professional staff, several parents are scheduled to assist each day. First established in 1938 as a private non-cooperative school for supervised play, TOPS received its more official beginning as a licensed cooperative in 1943 with about thirty children in attendance. The school has been located on the property of the Orinda Community Church for more than forty years. The present facility was completed to our joint specifications in 1965. While the physical plant has been the product of our long and unique friendship with the Orinda Community Church, the broad program is the product of the wealth of talent and experience that is a cooperative schools strength. Children participate in experiences in art, math, dramatic play, music, science, language arts, outdoor play and cooking. Activities are presented in accordance with the developmental level of the children. The cooperative preschool also furnishes parents with opportunities for informal child study. In September 1983, a Developmental Kindergarten was added to provide a program for children who turn five by December 2nd of the year in which they are enrolled. The Twos Program was established in 1997.

The mission of the Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center is to provide a family education center and community gathering space based in Jewish values and tradition. The SIJCC celebrates an expression of Judaism that welcomes people of all backgrounds. For the past 59 years the SIJCC has served the Jewish Community of the Silverlake/Hollywood area. Built in 1951 with initial funds raised by local members, the responsibilities of running the center were eventually given over to the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Los Angeles ( JCCGLA ). In 2001, facing fiscal challenges, JCCGLA was no longer able to fund the center and its preschool. Unwilling to lose the heart of their community, the pre-school director, teachers and parents banded together, forming the non-profit Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center. Their efforts and generous support from the Episcopal Church of Los Angeles ensured that the center could remain open. Funds to purchase the building from the JCCGLA were eventually raised. The efforts of the founding board of directors and its President, Janie Shulman ensured the preservation and growth of the SIJCC.
