An accredited educational institution by Western Associations of School and Colleges, Merryhill School provides a well-rounded curriculum through private education. The school has small class sizes, enabling personalized attention to individual students, and offers math, science and English alongside specialty classes, such as Spanish, art, music, technology and physical education, to burnish the rigid edges of the core curriculum in grade school. Additionally, the school aims to develop children's creativity, problem solving and collaboration skills.
The Poppy Patch Child Care Center is tucked away inside the buildings of the Franchise Tax Board, but is open to the public. In fact, only about half of the children at the center have parents who work for the Franchise Tax Board.
Poppy Patch has three separate centers: one for infant and toddler child care, one for potty training and early preschool, and one for preschoolers.
Capital Christian School, a private school operated by Capital Christian Center, serves more than 1,000 students from preschool to 12th grade. Academic studies are combined with Biblical teachings, and planning for college is stressed. High school juniors are required to attend a college fair. Extracurricular activities, summer camp and summer classes are available. The school has been at its current location since 1983.
Edward Kelley, the oldest operating school in northern California, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It currently operates as a parent participation preschool, where parents or guardians participate in workshops with their children and other families one day each week. Children can participate every day.
The school has a small capacity—only 25 students can be enrolled at a time—and the cost of one five-month semester is $300. It's operated by the Sacramento City Unified School District.
Edward Kelley Preschool, which was originally known as the Brighton School, is located on Bradshaw Road. It was formerly located on Folsom Boulevard before being moved. The Rancho Cordova Bicentennial Committee restored the school in 1975.
