Formed in 1923 as an outreach of the former Methodist Episcopal Church to the growing area of Vitrolite ( Vienna ) by the late Rev. Dr. John Wolfe, Wayside United Methodist Church has been central to community life from its inception. While the community has changed greatly around it over the years, Wayside United Methodist Church has continued to faithfully engage its mission of witness and discipleship. Today, Wayside United Methodist Church continues to be on a journey as a community of faith toward fulfilling Gods mission to the world, which we understand to be to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world and to cultivate those disciples in Christian faith and practice continues to be on the forefront of our churches ministries and initiatives. Our prayer is that God may continue to find us faithful in this task and that through our congregational life, nurture, worship, ministry, and witness, we may glorify God to the end that Gods Kingdom may come upon the earth even as it is in Heaven.

St. Leo Parish was founded in 1982 by Bishop Joseph H. Hodges, ordinary of the Diocese of Wheeling - Charleston. Bishop Hodges always held special interest in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia due to his own roots in Harpers Ferry. The active and complex parish family that exists today is quite different from the original community of 1982. However, it was the hard work of people who struggled to make homemade ice cream or organize a carnival to raise enough money just to host a parish dinner or buy new linens for the altar who set the tone and example that we try to follow today. In June of 1991, the parish had 232 registered families. Today, the parish has nearly 900 families and has moved into its new home situated on 139 acres. The church complex includes the sanctuary, office space, a conference room with a kitchenette, a library, our Fellowship Hall, and the CCD wing with classrooms for grades K-8th as well as confirmation and youth group. Our new site also incorporates a 9000 plot cemetery, as well as McGivney Hall, which houses the Knights of Columbus as well as serving as a classroom for Berkeley Countys head start program.
