The Eisai Research Institute, in Andover, Mass., is devoted to discovery research of complex synthetic and organic chemical compounds. A number of treatments and compounds have been discovered there, including a treatment for septic shock. The Eisai Research Institute is also involved in process research and bulk production of pharmaceuticals for use in clinical trials. Its process scientists determine the feasibility of pharmaceutical products for commercial production and prepare drug substances for formulation. Eisai Research Institute is a division of Eisai, a research-based human health care company that discovers, develops and markets products in more than 30 countries. Through a global network of research facilities, manufacturing sites and marketing subsidiaries, Eisai employs more than 7,700 people. Originally founded in Japan, the company expanded its operations to the United States in 1995.
