The land that is now Donaldson Park was acquired in 1958 after the Donaldson Corporation donated it to the city. The site was also in the running to be the location for Southdale Mall. Now, it is a large park that hosts a variety of sporting events and also serves as an extra space for Richfield Middle School physical education activities. The park features a soccer/football field, bounce court, four tennis courts, two hockey rinks and two baseball diamonds. One of the baseball fields is dedicated to the memory of Gordon Larson, who was a member of the Minnesota Babe Ruth Baseball Hall of Fame and worked for years to support youth baseball in Minnesota.
