Newly renovated Back Creek Nature Park, situated on a small creek that runs into the Chesapeake Bay, is a great spot for both exploration and education. Mainly, the park is home to the Osprey Nature Center, which offers nature education programs for all ages. The center even has a green roof with live plants and teachers can schedule class field trips by contacting The City of Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department. Meanwhile, the park itself has nature trails, picnic tables, benches, bike racks and a pier for kayaks and canoes.

Bestgate Park is located just down the street from Westfield Annapolis Mall and next to Annapolis Area Christian School on Bestgate Road. This free park, maintained by Anne Arundel County, is open year round from sunrise to sunset and offers recreational opportunities for all ages. The park features play equipment, a baseball field, a multipurpose field, two basketball courts and two tennis courts. Pets must be kept on a leash.

Note that the county schedules events and seasonal games at Bestgate Park, so call ahead for field availability at 410-222-7315. The facility scheduling office is located at 1 Harry S. Truman Parkway in Annapolis and open from Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.

Bay Head Park is a recreational and athletic field area located in Annapolis, serving residents of Broadneck and the surrounding areas. The location offers numerous amenities and facilities, including three multipurpose fields, lighted athletic fields, a playground as well as a paved trail for walking or hiking. The park also has a restroom facility as well as concession stand. The park offers a pavilion that can be reserved for various types of events or occasions. Jonas Green features picnic tables and boat docks; it's a great spot for Annapolitans who love to fish. The park is named after Jonas Green, a poet, printer and newspaper editor in the mid-1700s.

Led by Director LeeAnn Plumer, the City of Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department is located in the "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center at Truxton Park. The recreation center offers a variety of ammenities to its members at an affordable price including: group fitness classes, a rock climbing wall, cardio and weight machines and a four-lane track for walking and jogging.

Located along the northwest shore of the Chesapeake Bay, Sandy Point is a 786-acre state park that provides breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge while offering everything from boating, fishing, crabbing, swimming and hiking to wildlife viewing. Shelter rentals for up to 180 are available by calling 1-888-432-CAMP. There are 22 boat landing ramps and six finger piers, as well as a boat pump-out station. The park is the site of several favorite annual events, including the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival, the Maryland Seafood Festival and the holiday Festival of Lights.

Spanning more than 80 acres, Truxton Park is the city's main park, housing the new Roger W. Pip Moyer Recreation Center. In addition, it is home to the Penguin's Swim Team and a skate park. The park is equipped with benches, picnic tables, two playgrounds and nature trails. It also includes 12 tennis courts, three baseball fields, five basketball courts and a boat launch.
