Blacksburg Public Works Department, located in Blacksburg, Va., is responsible for the operation and maintenance of public facilities, infrastructure and landscape. Its refuse and recycling division provides recycling services for various materials, including newspapers, corrugated cardboards, magazines, catalogs, white papers, commingled containers and trashcans. The departments street division provides sidewalk repairs, parking meter installation, roadway debris clearing, street sweeping, traffic signal operation, street sign maintenance, asphalt patching, pothole repairs and street resurfacing services. It also installs and maintains public storm drainage systems that include storm sewers, catch basins, yard inlets, drainage ditches and holding ponds. The utility division offers utility billing services for new water and sewer accounts. The department owns and operates a cemetery that provides opening and closing graves.
