The Department of Public Works operates and maintains safe facilities and equipment for the entire county. The Department has a budget of approximately $200 million and comprises more than 300 employees in four divisions: Administrative Services and Airports, Engineering and Resource Protection, Facility Services, and Road Services. In addition to the county's general fund, San Mateo County receives state and federal funds for aviation and transportation, road maintenance, property maintenance to manage 46 districts managed by the Board of Supervisors.
The Public Works Department oversees all services regarding daily life. It consists of 83 personnel in four operative divisions: water utility, wastewater management, right-of-way, and municipal service and fleet management, in addition to environmental programs like Water Conservation and Tree Preservation.
