Alberto J. Panero, DO, is board certified in both physical medicine & rehabilitation and sports medicine. He runs his own sports medicine private practice at SAC Regenerative Orthopaedics, located in Sacramento, California, and works with the University of California, Davis as clinical faculty. Dr. Panero helps professional athletes and weekend warriors achieve optimal recovery without surgical intervention. During high school and college, Dr. Panero was an elite athlete who ran track and field as well as played baseball and soccer. He was part of the United States’ Soccer Olympic Development Program and competed in tournaments throughout the USA, France, and his home country of Argentina. Although recurrent ankle injuries cut his athletic career short, they also drove him to a career as a Sports Medicine Physician. Dr. Panero maintains a true passion for research and the advancement of sports medicine. He’s currently working with the UC Davis Center for Regenerative Cures in Sacramento, California, on stem cell research. One of his projects looks at the role of mesenchymal stem cells in patellar tendinopathy, while another is deciphering whether amniotic tissue actually contains viable stem cells and their clinical relevance. He’s faculty for various musculoskeletal ultrasound courses and an associate editor of the Sports Review Journal. He continues to be highly involved with his academic role at UC Davis, through the department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Panero has published multiple journal articles in his specialty, including topics such as platelet rich plasma (PRP), musculoskeletal ultrasound, and concussion.
