The Westchester County Department of Health is responsible for a number of services and programs in Westchester relating to quality of life, sanitation and health issues. From sexually transmitted diseases to food sanitation, the department aims to "protect and promote the health of the public through prevention, prolonging meaningful life and providing leadership during times of health crisis."
The Westchester County Department of Health monitors health conditions and epidemics throughout the county. It also disseminates public health information to residents and provides resources such as free cancer screenings, flu vaccines, rabies and lyme disease hotlines, rabies clinics and perinatal education. The department also checks mosquitoes for West Nile contamination, inspect restaurants, organize blood drives and issue permits for swimming pools. The office displays several pamphlets with information on fitness, talking to teenagers about drugs and alcohol, and pre-natal care.
