Lillian Nichols, a parish nurse with St. Bernard s Episcopal church, founded the Visiting Nurse Association. She started to attend to the sick and poor in 1903. In 1904, a committee was formed to direct her and be responsible for services to the community of Somerset Hills, which consisted of Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Gladstone, Mendham Borough and Chester Borough. The association provides home care for people recovering from an acute illness, injury, surgery or childbirth, or living their last days at home rather than a hospital. The Visiting Nurse Association provides physician-prescribed treatments and procedures and emotional and spiritual support to residents of Somerset and Morris Counties, N.J.

Bonnie Brae provides therapeutic education and rehabilitation for troubled adolescent boys. The center was founded in 1916 and employs a full staff of doctors, nurses, counselors, therapists and special education teachers.

Working with boys who struggle from having been mistreated, Bonnie Brae exists to help "young men reclaim their potential through education and therapy," according to the Web site.
