Green Pine Acres Nursing Home originated in the mind of Menahga Development Corporation in the early 1960s. They took the initial steps of purchasing property, hiring an architect and organizing the project. They donated the land and information to the City of Menahga for the actual building and operation.Green Pine Acres was opened for residents on May 1, 1965, licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health as an Intermediate I facility. Today, it is still owned and operated by the City of Menahga as a non-profit governmental unit with 65 Medicare/Medicaid-certified beds. There are twenty-seven single bed rooms. An adjoining park has been developed on approximately three acres with over 2200 linear feet of sidewalk, three gazebos, twelve park benches, an underground sprinkling system and a 30-foot-diameter fountain. This project has been funded by donations from local individuals, businesses, clubs, relatives or friends of residents and memorials. In 1996, Woodside Manor assisted living was developed. Woodside Manor has thirty-one, one-bedroom apartments and six, two-bedroom apartments, totaling 37 apartments. Also that year, Menahga Home Health came into being. It is licensed as a class F entity designed to provide services only at Woodside Manor. At this same time, Green Pine Acres Adult Day Services also came into being, providing services for the surrounding community. Also in 1996, we added the name "Greenwood Connections" as the umbrella organization name for all four entities. The rehab department has been expanded to provide extensive physical, occupational and speech therapy. Services include short-term Medicare A or Medicare B services following surgery for joint repair, gait training, reactivating fine motor skills, strengthening therapy, and speech and swallowing therapy.
