The Vermont Institute of Natural Science is a nonprofit organization that protects and promotes natural heritage through education and research. It works for the preservation of wildlife and operates a nature center that conducts several exhibitions. The organization features a nest records program that enables to examine nest success, cowbird parasitism rates, nest habitat types and physiographic locations. The Vermont Institute of Natural Science also publishes Small Wonders, which educates preschool children about natural world and sciences. In addition, it features the Vermont Loon Recovery project, which works with citizens, hydro dam operators, lake associations and state agencies to secure the future of Vermont loons. The organization is located in Woodstock, Vt., and additionally maintains a nature store that offers nature books, calendars, stuffed animals, birdhouses, birdfeeders, and educational toys and games.
