The Howard County Historical Society Museum, which occupies the stone structure that was formerly Ellicot Mills Quaker School, is dedicated to preserving the history of the county and of the Ellicot family. The museum is managed by the volunteer-run Howard County Historical Society. Admission is free, and the museum is open Friday and Saturday afternoons. It features artifacts and mementoes from five generations of the Ellicot family, tracing the early development of the community. The museum was established in 1988.

The Patapsco Female Institute is a historic site. It was originally a women's finishing school in 1837. It has since been partially restored and is available for private and group weekend tours. It can also be reserved for weddings, camp gatherings and other events.

The Ellicott City B&O Railroad Station Museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy and experience of American railroading, and to educate, interpret and present its history to its audience. The museum's collection contains numerous artifacts pertaining to the railroading industry's long history. The museum also concerns itself with preserving, documenting and presenting representative objects, skills and communal records from all facets of the railroad industry. Ellicott City B&O Railroad Station Museum is located in historic downtown Ellicott City along the oldest railway line in the US.
