The University of Memphis is a comprehensive doctoral-extensive metropolitan university. The University offers 15 bachelors degrees in more than 50 majors and 70 concentrations, masters degrees in over 45 subjects and doctoral degrees in 21 disciplines, in addition to the Juris Doctor and a specialist degree in education. The U of M campus is located on 1,160 acres with over 200 buildings at more than eight sites. The average age of full-time undergraduates is 23. Located on a more than 75-acre campus, Christian Brothers University offers a variety of educational and extracurricular programs and activities to students. It was founded in Memphis, Tenn., in 1871 by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Its Plough Memorial Library has more than 155,000 volumes, periodicals and microfilms. Access is available to students through an online catalog. A variety of electronic and CD-ROM databases are also available. All residence halls are networked, allowing e-mail and Internet access. Other amenities include free local telephone services and cable television. In addition to sports and fitness, students have the opportunity to participate in more than 40 student clubs, groups and organizations, including national fraternities and sororities.
