The Abington Free Library is the largest library and the most visited library in the Montgomery County Library and Information Network Consortium (MCLINC), which comprises more than 30 libraries. It employs 65 people and has more than 100 volunteers. The library has an extensive children's book collection on the lower level, as well as more than a dozen computers and a room for lectures and presentations.
Incorporated in 1993, Allegheny Land Trust (ALT) is a nonprofit organization that protects land of natural value in and adjacent to Allegheny County. The Trust helps "save local land that contributes to the scenic, recreational, educational and environmental wealth of our communities." ALT has protected more than 1,500 acres in Allegheny and Washington counties.
