Grace Lutheran Church was founded in Dumfries in 1959. In 1962, it became a new Mission Church in its current location, and has served the community since that time. Every Wednesday at 11am, the church hosts a free soup kitchen.

St. Matthew's, part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is associated with the Metropolitan Washington Synod. Several ministries are available to join, including, but not limited to, the social ministry, property and fellowship commitee, as well as worship and music services. Since 1973, St. Matthew's has offered pre-school classes for children ages two-and-a-half to five.
