The Fong Optometry and Health Sciences Library offers a huge collection of academic books and journals. Priority is given to UC students and faculty, but anyone is allowed to access the collection. There is a photocopier inside the library that can be used to make copies. Those wishing to place a textbook on reserve should make sure to include the course number and instructor name for the class. The library is on the fourth floor of Minor Hall.
Berkeley City College is an energetic community college with its campus located just blocks from the University of California, Berkeley. The college offers programs in a variety of subjects including business, English, multimedia arts, mathematics, American sign language, social science and women's studies. A variety of scheduling options are available to best accommodate your schedule, with classes offered on the weekend and online. The school was established in 1974 and is part of the Peralta Community College District. The college collaborates frequently with UC Berkeley and has a high transfer rate with the neighboring school.
With an all-volunteer staff, the Friends of the Berkeley Public Library Bookstore (one of two locations) sells secondhand books in good condition for the benefit of the Berkeley Public Libraries. As the organization is non-profit, purchases are tax-free. This quiet little store is in the Sather Gate Mall, near to UC campus. It carries genres range from fiction to drama, fine arts, biography and travel, and also stocks some CDs and DVDs. Additionally, the store has a sale section for books cheaper than the already very low-priced stock.
The Claremont branch of the Berkeley Public Library offers thousands of fiction and non-fiction books, a particularly large collection of mystery novels and travel guides, as well as numerous magazines and newspapers. A public meeting room is available to local residents for small gatherings. Numerous events are held each week, including children’s story time.
This organization is dedicated to supporting The Kensington Library. Members volunteer at the library, provide children's and cultural programs and raise money that helps to pay for more than half of the books.
This is the West Branch of the Berkeley Public Library system. It offers a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books, and has a special section devoted to children. The library also has a particularly large Spanish and Chinese language collection, as well as an assortment of Latino, African American, and Asian books. In addition, it offers the Lawyers in the Library service at this location, as well as the Berkeley Reads literacy program.
The North Branch of the Berkeley Public Library offers a huge selection books in many genres, as well as a special area set aside for teenagers. This branch also has a substantial classical music section. In addition, there is a self-checkout machine for added convenience. This is the South Branch of the Berkeley Public Library. There is a public meeting room and five Internet workstations for library members. The library also has more than 100 newspapers and magazines, including publications that are written in Spanish and multiple Asian languages. Furthermore, there is the Lawyers in the Library program at this location. The tool lending library is next door if you would like to borrow hammers, saws, shovels and other implements.
