Talbot Springs Elementary School is located in a culturally diverse community with a school population of close to 500. The school was opened in 1973 and has since undergone two renovations. Talbott Springs boasts a very active PTA and offers a variety of special programs.
Thunder Hill Elementary School was opened in 1970 and has undergone several renovations and/or additions, the last in 2007. It is one of Columbia's smaller elementary schools, with fewer than 350 students. The school is working on becoming a fully eco-friendly, green-certified school.
This school was founded under the popular precepts of Dr. Maria Montessori, who lends her name to this style of early-education, child-centered pedagogical technique. The Bryant Woods Montessori Children's House has been around for over 100 years, and in 2007 it celebrated its centennial anniversary. Montessori education begins here, and students continue their education at the Bryant Woods Montessori School.
