Premier Preschool and Childcare Center is located on Village Square Drive, which is off of Memorial Drive. Premier Preschool and Childcare Center is a full-service pre-school and children daycare center. It offers transportation and school pick-up, hot meals and a playground. New children are welcomed.
Rowland Elementary, founded in 1967, is a family-oriented school that has deep roots in its community. Some of Rowland's first pupils are still actively involved in the school because their children attended, and now their grandchildren are pupils there.
The school takes part in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl, a county contest in which children are tested on their knowledge of a selection of books. Rowland also takes part in an academic bowl.
The school offers afternoon tutorials and an after-school program that includes homework assistance, educational games, arts and crafts.
Stone Mill Elementary is on a quiet, neighborhood street between Memorial Drive and North Hairston Road and is for children from Pre-K through fifth grade. Most students are from the surrounding community. Stone Mill has one of the most diverse student populations in Atlanta, with pupils from more than 25 countries. The school has three faculty members who teach English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). In the 2009-2010 year, it exceeded the state's goal for objective measures of reading, and takes part in the "25 Books Campaign," a county initiative that encourages reading. It also has a Math Masters program.
Voices of Faith Academy is located on Rockbridge Road, a short distance from Hot Buys Furniture store. The Voice of Faith Academy is a Christian school for children in Kindergarten through the 5th grade. They have a small campus well equipped campus which features a gymnasium and ball field.
Located in the heart of the Smoke Rise community, Smoke Rise Elementary has about 500 pre-K through fifth grade students. The school has an active after-school program and offers extracurricular activities, including a science club. Smoke Rise Elementary strives for active involvement from parents, asking each to commit to ten hours of service to the school every year. Volunteers have sculpted the school's grounds into a welcoming, peaceful and well-tended landscape that includes a nature trail.
Woodridge Elementary School was founded in 1975 in a residential neighborhood west of South Hairston Road and north of Covington Highway. The school has been a Title I Distinguished School for eight years in a row, from 2001-2009. The school encourages parent participation and offers parenting seminars.
Woodridge Elementary offers after-school tutorials for those who need extra help in reading and math and a reading recovery program.
Allgood Elementary has been a part of the Stone Mountain greater community since 1954. Every year since 2002, the school has been an Adequate Yearly Progress Title I School, meaning it met or succeeded student progress required by the federal Title I program. The school is proud of its outdoor science classroom, created in partnership with Lowe's, that offers students a hands-on learning experience. Reading is stressed at Allgood, where the principal selects a book to highlight each month. The school also has a"25 Books" campaign to assist students in reaching the state's "million word" challenge to read one million words a year. Its motto is "Advancing, achieving and succeeding."
Dunaire Elementary, which perches above South Indian Creek Road, has one of the more diverse populations of students in Dekalb County, a reflection of the community of which it is a part.
The school serves pre-K through fifth grade and has 525 students. The staff members are proud of the fact that the school made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) despite the fact that many of its children's families might be considered homeless or in transition.
Dunaire partners with Ray of Hope Christian Church to give support to the school through donations of book bags, school supplies, Thanksgiving baskets and holiday shopping. The school's Principal is Dr. Carolyn Thompson.
