The 4th "R" child care program is operated by the city of Sacramento's Department of Parks and Recreation. It offers child care both before and after school. It is open during summer, winter and spring breaks, but is closed on city holidays and staff training days. The program offers recreational activities such as singing and dancing, games and sports, introductions to cooking and nutrition, science programs, nature exploration and field trips. Staff members always maintain a 14:1 ratio of children to adults. The program has locations on the campuses of many Sacramento elementary schools, including Sequoia Elementary School.
