The Joyce Middle School is one of two middle schools serving the city of Woburn. At Joyce, more than 70 staff members work with 500-plus students every day.
Homework is generally given to students every night. Minimum homework is usually 60 minutes of work, four nights a week for sixth-graders, 90 minutes nightly for seventh-graders and two hours nightly for eighth-graders.
Report cards are issued to students four times a year in November, January, April and June. High honor roll and honor roll awards are presented every marking period.
The Woburn Public Schools Administrative Offices are located at the Joyce Middle School. Superintendent Mark Donovan's office is on the main floor of the administration building at Joyce.
Founded by Susan Egain in 1973, Harborlight Montessori School is an independent, non-profit school providing instruction for children from pre-school through seventh grade, along with before- and after-school and summer camp programs. Its academic environment fosters personal and intellectual development and encourages individualized learning and critical and diverse thinking skills.
St. Bridget School recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, opening on Sept. 14, 1958. Although the elementary and middle school are a private Catholic school, it is staffed by lay administration and faculty. Principal Roseanne Mungovan. The school follows the Framingham Public Schools calendar. The school has an application process and does offer financial aid. Students live in Framingham and other surrounding communities including Ashland, Holliston, Hopkinton, Natick, Southborough and Sudbury.
The school offers an extended day program from 2:15 to 6 p.m. for an additional fee. There is an active PTO, and the Catholic school is part of the St. Bridget Parish.
Saint Michael School PTO is volunteer organization dedicated to increasing the social and financial well-being of the Saint Michael School. It raises funds for the school and develops an interactive community of parents, teachers, administrators and students and hosts events such as auctions, Christmas concerts, uniform exchanges and mini golf tournaments.
